I’ve decided I’m going to start blogging about things that I enjoy, and talk about why I enjoy them. I’ll try to do a little research to expand my knowledge, and maybe you’ll be encouraged to try some new things (whoever you are!). The first thing I’m going to talk about it Vernors Ginger Ale.

I first discovered Vernors Ginger Ale while I was on my mission, serving in the town of Kokomo, IN. Elder Bryan and I were eating dinner at a member of the bishopric’s house when we were invited to choose a soda from the fridge. When I opened the fridge I remember there being a glowing light and a faint Hallelujah chorus, as the fridge was full of this heavenly drink. This good member told us how much he loved the soda…I tried it, and I was hooked!

Now even though I first tried Vernors in Indiana, it was much more popular in Michigan. Apparently it was first created in Detroit in 1866, making it America’s oldest surviving soft drink! It was even made before Coke and Pepsi. The company’s catchphrase is “deliciously different,” which I think is just awesome!

When I got back from my mission, I wasn’t able to find it anywhere! So…I filled out a ‘product request form’ at Maceys, and they got it in! They’ve got 2 liters, 6 packs, and 12 packs. They’ve also got diet if you’re on of ‘those’ people, haha. Anyway, I highly recommend it! It’s amazing stuff. One way I like describing it is “less fizzy than Canada Dry, but more flavorful.” If you try it, comment and let me know what you think! One new thing I discovered that I’m going to try is called a ‘Boston Cooler’, which is essentially a Vernors and vanilla ice cream milkshake. Sounds delicious!
